THE SEYLIARD FAMILY

The Seyliard family was one of the oldest and and most established in this part of Kent.They owned lands in Chiddingstone, Hever, Brasted and Edenbridge and have numerous memorials in these parish churches. The house called "Seyliards" near Four Elms on the B2027 was one of the many properties owned by this family. This page gives 19 generations of the SEYLIARD family.

He also sold all his lands at Mayfield and Hartfield in Sussex. He almost utterly decayed the name, for he sold much land, as by the several deeds it doth appear. "

In his own will he seems to have neither wife nor children and leaves his estate to a huge list of godchildren, nephews and cousins. The will ( Langley 10) was proved in London by William Seyliard. The house called "Seyliards" that he inherited from his father he left to Nicholas, William and Henry - the sons of his brother Nicholas.

In his will (Hene 35) Brookstreet Farm in Edenbridge and Cowden, and Lockskinners in Chiddingstone are sold off. Will proved 2 March 1668 by wife Mary sole executrix.
