Streatfield papers T178/2 dated 1615 in KCC Archive Maidstone is the gavelkind partition between Henry and John "sons of John Ashdown of Chiddingstone, yeoman, and grandsons and co-heirs of Henry Ashdown". John Ashdown living with his mother, Joan Sedley, got Kitchen Crofts and Larkins Farm. Confusingly, page 75 says John's wife was called Joan. Did his mother and wife have the same name, or are they the same person? Penshurst parish records show a "Jone, wife of John Ashdowne" dying in 1593 and a "widow Ashdowne" dying in 1631. |
